On the road: Jaguar F-Type review
This week the folks at Hippo Leasing have reviewed the Jaguar F-Type and see if it measures up to the powerhouse coupes of Porsche, Audi and Mercedes.
On the Jaguar website, it says “Life. It’s not about figures. It’s about feelings. The moments that feed your soul. The occasions that take your breath away. The instances that leave you speechless. These are the moments we live for.” This is the essence that is instilled in the Jaguar F-Type.
The Jaguar F-Type is a stylish, sleek and beautiful two-seater sports coupe that is so fun and will keep you smiling from start to finish. It has to contend with some big hitters including the Porsche 911, Audi R8 and Mercedes AMG GT and it holds up well against these rivals.
There are three models to consider for the coupe, including the 3.0-litre supercharged V6, the F-Type S with its 3.0-litre supercharged V6 and the F-Type R that comes with a 5.0-litre supercharged V8.
Choose an engine
The standard 3.0-litre V6 develops 340 bhp and can accelerated from 0-62 in 6 seconds and can deliver a top speed of 161 MPH. When it comes to fuel economy with the 6-speed manual gearbox, you get 29 MPG, but if you choose the automatic version you get 34 mpg, which also cuts the road tax by almost half.
The F-Type S brings with it a more refined 3.0-litre supercharged V6 that throws out 380 bhp. This version of the F-Type can sprint from 0-60 in 5 seconds and will eventually reach a top speed of 171 MPH. While fuel economy may not be a major priority for you if you own an F-Type, the S develops between 29-33 mpg.
The most powerful model is the F-Type R with its 5.0-litre supercharged V8 that develops a very impressive 550 bhp, which allows the car to dash from 0-60 in 4 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph. This model only comes with an automatic gearbox and has an optional all-wheel drive system.
Interior
The F-type Coupe is a snug fit with spacious leg and headroom for the driver and passenger and is fitted with top-end materials to made the seating and the dashboard a truly comfortable and unique place to sit & drive. The F-Type also comes with ambient interior lighting that you can change. The boot capacity of 407-litres which is impressive for a two seater sports coupe to have.
The standard equipment in all F-Types includes Xenon headlights, Bluetooth, DAB Radio, Sat-Nav, climate control and part electric seats. If you are looking for full-leather seats, go for the higher V6 model and the V8 model.
The drive
Jaguar designed the F-Type to be a driver’s car and it really delivers. If you are driving an F-Type through any urban area, people will turn and too at it. Both because the engine is loud and because it looks beautiful and carries a sense of theatre about it.
The drive itself is fun in almost every circumstance, delivering a smile right to your face and never taking it away. If you are driving in a city, it is a smooth drive and very comfortable ride. When it comes to those twisty, fast B-roads, it becomes a dream to accelerate down straights and turn effortlessly into the corners and bends. If you are a motorway fan, then the F-Type is one of the top cars for those loping, long-distance journeys.
If you are looking for a great coupe to lease instead of outright buy, then you cannot go wrong with this car.
