Practice

People like different types of pizza. They like thin crust and thick crust. They like different types of cheese and sauce. Plus, the way you cook it really makes a difference to the texture and flavour. It’s up to you to start to hone your pizza making skills, and use fresh ingredients to create a pizza that everybody is going to want to buy.

Your business plan

Creating a business plan is what you’d have to do when starting any business. Make sure you consider the business paperwork, whether you’ll get a license to sell alcohol, and consider the other regulations in your area. Making a detailed plan is never anybody’s idea of fun, especially when you just want to get out there and do it. However, it has to be done! Include the numbers so you have a good idea of what your business will cost.

Location, location, location

You don’t have to be the sole pizza place in the area, but you shouldn’t be overrun with them either. It’s a good idea to find an area where there aren’t many around, in a spot where people will easily be able to spot your restaurant. Consider how much foot traffic you’ll get and whether there’s parking nearby.

Purchasing your equipment

You need to splash out on equipment for your business if you’re going to open your place. Will you get a commercial pizza oven, or a wood burning stove? If you go with the latter, you’ll then need wood briquettes to keep things fired up. What about coolers for fresh ingredients, delivery equipment, and cutters?

Making your menu

Come up with an idea for your menu. When you’re just starting out, it can be better to start with just a few items rather than a huge menu. You want to be able to prepare your food consistently. You may even become known for a specific dish!

Finding the staff

You need staff who will give your customers a great experience and make them want to come back again and again. However, you need to treat your staff right in order to do this too. Finding great people is half the battle. You need to be a great leader.

Marketing

How will you start marketing your business? Go to social media, make pages, and don’t be afraid to pay for marketing either. Having a website created can help people to check out your restaurant before they show up. Remember; this isn’t something you want to scrimp and save on.

If you love nothing more than eating and making pizza, it could be a lucrative business for you.
