Selected Industries Perfect For Smaller Businesses

If you’re a prospective entrepreneur and looking for the next opportunity, it can feel daunting when you look out and see all of the massive corporations and conglomerates that dominate some markets. Thankfully, there are more than a few areas where a small team or even a single person can still make a major impact, and here are some of the prime options you can look at.

Smaller Businesses

Software Development

While there are massive software companies creating epic projects on huge scales around the world, many forget that a lot of the most influential and popular options like Facebook started as solo or small-team ideas. There are countless examples of individuals creating market-changing apps, and as the world moves toward digital integration, there are plenty of opportunities to find the next one.

Some specific industries are particularly open for small teams to move in. For example, within the online casino industry, the vast majority of table games like poker and blackjack, and slot games like Fishin Frenzy or the Book of Dead series, are often created by small teams of two or three developers. It’s why so many titles can be produced over a short time frame, and there is always more room for extra studios.

HR Services

Any company over a certain size will invariably have an HR officer or, at a certain size, an entire HR department. However, with the number of other small startups rising with only a handful of staff available, many are looking externally for their recruitment, retention, and bureaucratic services. This then means that there is a strong need for independent HR businesses.

What an independent people consultant for HR does can often vary heavily from client to client. In some cases, they may require pure recruitment services, and recruitment agencies can be anywhere from a single staff member to scores of employees. It can also be building employee policies, resource management for projects, or even networking beyond the company. It’s a business that only usually requires experience to get started.

Marketing Agencies

In a similar line of thinking to HR, startup companies can often come to dedicated marketing much further down the line in terms of growth. With the initial pitch and promotion usually handled by one of the founders, the need for an in-house marketing team is low for a long time, and freelancers or agencies are commonly used to fill the gap.

Depending on the level of marketing required, it may be possible to cover things as a singular person. Of course, you’re not going to be able to pull off something like Amazon’s marketing strategy solo, but creating things like an e-mail list or putting together basic ads or flyers is certainly in that range. The only real limiter comes down to the experience and skill-set available, and after that it’s just building up contacts and a reputation.

As with any other business, there’s no guarantee of success in any of the above. However, there are more options for small groups than many realise and it’s a great idea to explore as many as possible.
