Step away from the screen
Taking regular breaks during your workday can be extremely beneficial to your general state of well-being and keep you motivated. Research has shown that short, regular breaks can lead to an overall improvement in productivity. This is especially true for those people whose work requires them to sit in front of a computer all day long.
Try implementing a routine that has you working for 50 minutes and then taking a break for 10 minutes – you may think that you won’t be able to get as much work done as you need to, but we think you’ll notice a marked improvement in both the quantity and quality of your output. Go for a short walk – outside if possible, but around the office will do, or find a quiet corner and do a few stretches or breathing exercises.
Rest your bones
Those of you that have a physical job will also benefit from taking regular breaks. In this case, the 50:10 work/ break ratio might not be as beneficial, but your body will certainly thank you for putting your feet up for an hour or so on your lunch break. And when we say putting your feet up, we mean it literally!
Find a spot where you can sit down and get your feet up as high as possible; you’ll find this will improve your energy and give your legs a new lease of life. It’s good to engage the brain with something completely unrelated to your job, particularly if you’re having a stressful day and need an extra boost to stay motivated. Eating well can have a huge effect on your productivity at work. Your brain needs fuel to keep it running at its optimum level. Daily bouts of brain fog and tiredness are usually symptoms of poor nutrition.
Breakfast, for example, is the most important meal of the day, but most of us skip it in favour of a quick coffee on-the-run. Lunch could be a great opportunity to right the wrongs of caffeine addiction, but we’re usually so busy that we just grab a quick sandwich and eat it as fast as possible at our desks. We then drink more coffee to get us through the afternoon. We’re generally so ravenous by the time we get home that we barely give nutrition a second thought, which is why we turn to pizza and pasta more often than not.
If you really wish to stay motivated at work and increase your productivity, you need to address your eating habits and perhaps make some changes.
